Bone Grafting

When it comes to replacing missing teeth, dental implants are typically the most popular choice amongst both dentists and their patients. However, in some cases the jawbone is either too weak or deteriorated to support an implant. When that occurs, bone grafting can be performed to strengthen or rejuvenate the jaw bone so it can support an implant.

How Does Bone Grafting Work?

Within two to three years of losing a tooth, most of the bone in that area is gone. In order to prevent that or to help restore that healthy bone grafting is performed. This allows for implant placement or to maintain better esthetics with a more youthful appearance.

This treatment is performed under the form of anesthesia that is best suited for you. This may vary from just a gentle local anesthetic to I.V. sedation.

We now have the ability to grow bone where needed. This gives us the opportunity to place implants of proper length and width, and it also gives us a chance to more effectively restore aesthetic appearance and functionality.

When it comes to bone grafting, there are many different options available. At Raymond D Kimsey, DMD we will sit down with you at our Coral Gables office and discuss treatment options as well as evaluate which bone grafting option is best for you, whether it’s rejuvenating your current jawbone, or growing a new bone artificially.
